Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

PFF Cornerback Rankings: Top 32 ahead of the 2025 NFL season – PFF11. Cooper DeJean, Philadelphia Eagles. The highest-ranked rookie from 2024 on the list, DeJean was phenomenal for the Eagles in their Super Bowl run. He ranked second in PFF coverage grade from man and zone-match coverage in 2024 (76.7), third in PFF coverage grade (84.1) and 12th in PFF advanced coverage grade. He did not allow a touchdown on 97 targets. […] 16. Quinyon Mitchell, Philadelphia Eagles. The top two rookie cornerbacks from 2024 were the Eagles’ first two selections in the 2024 NFL Draft. Mitchell fared better than his teammate in PFF advanced coverage grade, ranking sixth, but placed ninth in PFF overall and standard coverage grades. Don’t be surprised if Mitchell contends for a top-five spot a year from now, as he finished the 2024 season with 15 forced incompletions (third most).

Eagles Film Review: Myles Hinton possesses the size to develop into a future starter – BGNThis is another Eagles’ day 3 draft pick that I like. I’m not clueless; I know that most day 3 draft picks don’t work out, but I think the Eagles added a lot of interesting talent. Myles Hinton is another intriguing talent. The number one offensive line scout online, Brandon Thorn, had Myles Hinton as a 4th-round pick, which doesn’t surprise me at all. He’s a talented lineman who possesses the size to develop into a future starter, although he requires significant technical improvement. I hope we don’t see him this year. I’ve not seen anyone else mention this online, but I wonder if there’s a slight possibility that Hinton is developed as a guard further down the line, too. I know he has prototypical tackle size, but the Eagles showed with Mekhi Becton (6-foot-7⅜ and 364 pounds) that they are willing to have a giant at guard. If Hinton did end up at guard, it would help him overcome some of his issues with oversetting and getting beaten inside.

The lasting impact of Brandon Graham on Nolan Smith – NBCSPAfter 15 seasons and two Super Bowl titles, Brandon Graham officially retired from the NFL this offseason. But his legacy lives on in Nolan Smith. Smith, 24, thinks about Graham every day when he looks into the mirror at his house and sees the words “Be You” written down. A reminder of the most important bit of advice he got from his legendary former teammate, advice that helped him get through a slow start as a rookie back in 2023. “It was just a learning year,” Smith said. “And, truly, a testament to Brandon Graham. You’re about to make me cry up here just because BG gave me so much just from the outside world putting so much pressure on me. ‘You’re a first-round pick, you need to do this, you need to do that.’ BG just told me, ‘Be you.’ And til this point that’s what I got on my mirror, my goals, be you.

Mike Trout’s Super Bowl bat message becomes a baseball card – PFTThe NFL has infiltrated the world of baseball cards, in one very specific way. Via TheAthletic.com, Angels outfielder Mike Trout’s inscription of the Super Bowl LIX final score on the bottom of his bat has become a baseball card. The card shows this writing from Trout: “Eagles 40, Chiefs 22” and “Fly Eagles Fly!” It will be included in Topps’ upcoming Tier One set.

Report: Jacksonville Jaguars sign EDGE Dennis Gardeck, release RB Keilen Robinson, waive OL Cooper Hodges – Big Cat CountryIn an assumingly corresponding move, the Jaguars released running back Keilan Robinson, according to Jeremy Fowler. The former Longhorn was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft to be Jacksonville’s secondary return man behind Devin Duvernay. Unfortunately, Robinson played in just six games as a rookie due to a toe injury. He recorded 2 kick returns for 34 yards. [BLG Note: The Eagles claimed Robinson off waivers on Friday.]

Fans have high expectations for Commanders rookies and some concern about veteran absence from OTAs – Hogs HavenSecond-round draft pick, CB Trey Amos, got the most votes in the survey. More than one-third of all survey respondents expect him to out-produce his draft position (61st overall pick in the 2025 draft). Given that the expectations for a second-round pick are so much higher than those for Day 3 picks, this seems to say a lot about what Hogs Haven readers think of Trey Amos. Here’s a taste of the commentary about the young cornerback from the comments section of the survey article. At least one comment here that suggests that Amos could end up as an All Pro may be projecting a bit beyond the scope of the question in the survey which aimed to focus on rookie-year performance, but then, we’ve never suggested that these are scientifically valid surveys. Personally, I’m thrilled to see the enthusiasm for Trey Amos that this survey and these comments demonstrate.

DaRon Bland cornerback ranking at PFF is not what you’d expect heading into 2025 – Blogging The BoysThe Dallas Cowboys had a bad 2024 season overall. Expectations were that the team was talented enough to win the Super Bowl—maybe not, but at least compete for a Wild Card playoff spot. There’s no question the front office could have done more to set the team up better last season, but injuries played a significant role in last year’s downfall. The Cowboys seem to be paying for their woebegone year in Pro Football Focus’s annual positional power rankings of NFL players, with many from Dallas absent entirely from the lists. In their latest ranking of the league’s Top 32 cornerbacks heading into 2025, All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland was sitting at the bottom.

Are the Giants actually among the NFL’s best drafting franchises? – Big Blue ViewThis is, of course, the elephant in the room: 2020 through 2025 was dominated by Daniel Jones. And while we don’t need to relitigate that all again, but it’s also undeniably true that a quarterback sets the ceiling and floor for a team. Quarterback play touches on, and influences, every other aspect of the team. Things like sack rate, passing yardage, and efficiency are “sticky” and tend to be independent of situation. And from that perspective, Jones is a limited quarterback who limited the team around him. He seldom allowed the players around him to play up to their potential. Likewise, his offenses rarely gave the defense a lead to protect or forced the opposing offense to pass to keep up. As Gridiron Grading put it “QB issue? Probably.” That’s a sentiment that the Giants’ organization has seemed to echo this year, adding Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Jaxson Dart to transform the quarterback room. Each of those players represents a philosophic shift from Jones and how he the offense was schemed around his play and preferences. Given that they were each chosen by Brian Daboll, we have to assume that they’re more in line with his vision for the offense. One of the big stories to follow this year is how (or if) players perform after a change, and possible upgrade, at the most important position.

Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen wants takeaway-starved Giants filling treasure chest: ‘Be a damn pirate’ – NFL.comTalk Like a Pirate Day falls on Sept. 19, 2025. Playing like a pirate is now a daily aspiration for the New York Giants’ defenders. Thus, whenever defensive coordinator Shane Bowen’s squad has tallied a takeaway during organized team activities, the Giants have celebrated by tucking their newfound prize into a treasure chest. It’s a novel approach for a DC looking to improve from a 2024 showing in which Big Blue mustered just 15 takeaways — 28th in the NFL. “You’ll hear our guys say it. I say it ad nauseum: ‘Be a damn pirate,’” Bowen said Thursday, via team transcript. “We got to find ways to get the ball. And, again, you get what you emphasize. We’re making it a priority this year to make sure we find ways to get the ball.”

A single GM managed to set back 2 NFL teams YEARS – SB NationA good general manager can overhaul an NFL franchise. A bad one is capable of doing incredible damage. Today we look back at one man whose negative influence on two organizations was so profound that they’re both still recovering from his tenure. Ask fans of the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants who was the worst GM in team history and they’ll give you the same answer: Dave Gettleman.
