Things are going from bad to downright horrible for Keyshawn Davis, as his scheduled title fight against Edwin De Los Santos — which was set for tomorrow night (Sat., June 7, 2025) in Norfolk, Virginia — has been canceled.
That’s according to ESPN’s Andreas Hale, who reported that the two camps could not come to terms after the weigh in catastrophe earlier today which saw Davis miss weight by four pounds, prompting officials to strip him of the WBO Lightweight title.
To make matters worse, Davis didn’t seem to show much remorse doing the weigh in, which De Los Santos flat out called “irresponsible.” Speaking of De Los Santos, he was still going to be eligible to win the title, while “The Businessman” was not.
De Los Santos’ promoter Sampson Lewkowicz explained his reasoning for pulling the plug on the fight.
“We renegotiated 10 pounds, more money, but we concluded that Davis never tried to make weight. He was dancing on the scale, I didn’t want what happened to Haney and Garcia to happen. We canceled the fight.”
While a tough blow for everyone involved, it’s an especially crushing one for Davis, who is without a doubt one of the more promising fighters in the division that includes stars such as Shakur Stevenson, Devin Haney, Tank Davis and Ryan Garcia.
While the undefeated (13-0-1) combatant still has a bright future, his star will shine a bit less for the time being, and he will have to work his way back into the good graces of fight fans — and promoters — following this string of unfortunate events. According to Yahoo Sports journalist Keith Idec, De Los Santos will be paid his entire fight purse, while Top Rank Boxing is offering refunds for those who request it.
The new headliner for tomorrow’s ESPN fight card will now feature a Lightweight bout between Abdullah Mason and Jerimia Nakathila.
