Christian Pulisic’s new partner in attack? Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema’s Saudi Pro League rival could return to Europe with Milan

Cristiano Ronaldo sends final message to Portugal ahead of UEFA Nations League Final vs. Yamal’s Spain

With Milan embarking on a summer rebuild under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, fresh transfer whispers are circulating—and one of them has the potential to surprise even the most well-informed supporters. A high-scoring Saudi Pro League forward, who has been sharing the stage with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, is now being linked with a dramatic return to European play. And it could happen at San Siro, potentially pairing him with Christian Pulisic in the Rossoneri’s frontline.

While Milan’s interest in this unnamed striker is still in its early stages, the signs are clear: the club is exploring bold, unconventional moves in response to a disappointing season and the likely departure of key players. But who is this mystery striker catching the attention of the Serie A giant?

The player in question is Aleksandar Mitrovic, a name well known in England and now in Saudi Arabia. The 30-year-old Serbian international, currently with Al-Hilal, has been one of the more effective forwards in the Saudi Pro League, registering a staggering 68 goals and 15 assists in just 79 appearances since arriving in 2023. His 19 goals in 23 games during the 2024–25 season alone underline a striker who has lost none of his bite.

Mitrovic’s journey to the Gulf came after a prolific spell with Fulham, where he scored 111 goals and tallied 21 assists in 206 games, earning a reputation as one of the most consistent and overlooked forwards in the Premier League.

Now, less than two years later, the veteran is said to be “willing to take a wage cut” to return to Europe, and Milan is among the clubs showing interest. French newspaper L’Equipe reports that the Saudi club’s hierarchy is in Paris to meet with many teams to discuss players. Among those clubs, the Rossoneri are reportedly going to bring up one that piques their interest.

Financial equation and Milan’s edge

Mitrovic is reportedly valued at $45 million—a figure that may seem high given his age and contract situation (his deal runs until 2026), but one that Milan could potentially afford if sales such as those of Tijjani Reijnders or Theo Hernandez go through.

Manchester United is also in the race, but may lack the financial flexibility to act quickly. “United don’t currently have the finances to pull off a deal without outgoings first,” talkSPORT adds, suggesting that the Italian side may have a narrow window to gain the upper hand.

A potential Mitrovic arrival could fill a critical need for Allegri’s system. Luka Jovic’s uncertain future and Olivier Giroud’s departure to LAFC last summer have left a vacuum in the No.9 role – and January signing Santiago Gimenez is yet to find his pace in Serie A. The Serbian, a 6’2″ target man with a physical style and penalty-box sharpness, would bring a new dynamic to the San Siro attack.
