Brazil star Marquinhos advises Carlo Ancelotti to follow Luis Enrique’s example at PSG

Marquinhos has emerged as one of the key figures for the Brazil national team as Carlo Ancelotti begins his tenure with an eye toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In a squad that has struggled to regain its identity since Qatar 2022, the veteran defender offered some pointed advice to his new coach—urging him to follow the model set by Luis Enrique at Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti officially kicked off his era with Brazil this week by leading his first training session, preparing the team for Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador. But the road ahead won’t be easy. Since their early exit in Qatar, Brazil has failed to reestablish itself as a global powerhouse, lacking both consistency and direction.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has placed its trust in Ancelotti to lead the Seleção back to glory. Asked what it will take to achieve that goal, Marquinhos emphasized the importance of unity and cited Luis Enrique’s recent success in Paris as a blueprint.

“The secret is working for the team, like we did in Paris. Luis Enrique knew how to handle Kylian Mbappe’s departure and build a strong group with what he had. Ancelotti will have to properly read the talent he has available and put it to work for the team,” Marquinhos said in Tuesday’s press conference.

In recent years, PSG saw the exits of star names like Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe—but Luis Enrique embraced the challenge. Arriving in 2023, the Spanish manager built a well-balanced side without a defined superstar, ultimately guiding the club to the UEFA Champions League title in 2024–25.

“I spoke with him and he left an excellent impression. He knows exactly what he wants and communicates it clearly,” Marquinhos added. With the team now fully focused on its opener against Ecuador, there’s a growing belief that Brazil can thrive by prioritizing cohesion over individual brilliance.

Marquinhos focused on building a stronger Brazil

With Neymar unavailable, Marquinhos will wear the captain’s armband during these pivotal early matches in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. While time is limited before the 2026 tournament kicks off, the veteran believes Ancelotti’s arrival will be a catalyst for lasting improvement.

“We’re in a transition phase, but with his experience, I’m sure we’ll grow with each game until we reach the level we’re aiming for. He’s going to create a comfortable atmosphere, with the calm we need to fully develop his playing style.”

The PSG defender closed his remarks with a clear message to both fans and opponents. “The collective will make us stronger. With that mindset and Ancelotti’s leadership, we can become the Brazil everyone expects us to be again,” he concluded.
