Asian Athletics Championships, Day 1, May 27, 2025

China dominated opening day, by EME News

GUMI (KOR, May 27): In Korea started the 26th Asian Championships. In the men 20 km walk championships record 1:20:37 by Chinese Paris Olympian Wang Zhaozhao ahead of Japanes Kento Yoshikawa 1:20:46 and Indian Servin Sebastian 1:21:14. Also women competition had a Chinese winner in meet record, World medalist Yin Hang 1:30:44. Silver also for China as Ma Li got 1:32:08 and bronze for Kazakhstan´s Yasmina Tokonbayeva 1:32:22 ahead of best Japanese Ayane Yanai 1:33:15. Indian record holder Gulveer Singh won the 10 000 m in 28:38.63 clearly ahead of Mebuki Suzuki from Japan 28:43.84 and Albert Rop from Bahrain 28:46.82. China dominated women hammer with 1-2, Li Ji 72.98 ahead of Li Jiangyan 69.13. In third Ya Chien Yu from Taipei 64.25. Su Lingdan won women javelin with 63.29 PB followed by Japanese duo Momone Ueda 59.39 and Sae Takemoto 58.94. And another Chinese gold for Li Yi in triple jump 13.80 (-0.9) edging Sharifa Davronova of Uzbekistan 13.74 (-1.3) and Japanese Mariko Morimoto 13.65 (-1.4). Tejaswin Shankar from India clearly leads the decathlon after day one with 4205 points (219 in high jump). Fastest in 400 m heats was Chinese Fu Haoran with 46.21. Later in semifinals the fastest 45.74 achieved by Japanese Fuga Sato (735) and Sri Lankan Kalinga Kumarage (740). Japanese Nanako Matsumoto was the best in women 400 m heats with 52.24. In the 100 m heats fastest Liang Xiaojing 11.22 (+0.9) among women and talented Puripol Boonson 10.22 (+1.4) among men.

Zhu 17.06, Yanagita 10.20

GUMI (KOR, May 28): Tokyo silver medallist Zhu Yaming topped the triple jump with 17.06 (1.4) at the Asian Championships day two, winning ahead of India’s Praveen Chithravel 16.90 (1.9) and Yu Gyumin of Korea 16.82w (2.1), also 16.55 (0.9). Hiroki Yanagita won the 100m in photo-finish in 10.194 (0.6) with Puripol Boonson of Thailand (10.196). 400m titles for Japan’s Nanako Matsumoto in 52.17 over Rupal Chaudhary of India (52.68) and Uzbekistan’s Jonbibi Hukmova (52.79 PB), and for Qatar’s Ammar Ismail Yahya Ibrahim in 45.33 ahead of Kentaro Sato of Japan (45.50) and Sri Lanka’s Kalinga Kumarage (45.55). More wins for China, by Liang Xiaojing in the 100m in 11.37 (-0.1) over Singapore’s Veronica Shanti Pereira (11.41) and Tran Thi Nhi Yen of Vietnam (11.54), Niu Chunge in the pole vault (448) ahead of fellow Tokyo Olympics finalist Xu Huiquin (423), Qi Wang in the men’s hammer (74.50), Fei Xiang in the decathlon (7634) ahead of Tejaswin Shankar of India (7618) and Japan’s Keisuke Okuda (7602), and Li Chunhui in the 1500m (4:10.58). Japan won the men’s 1500m by Kazuto Iizawa (3:42.56), and India topped the 4x400m mixed relay (3:18.12). Fast short hurdles prelims, with national records for Qatar by Oumar Doudai Abakar with 13.39 (1.5) in the 110m hurdles, and for Indonesia by Dina Aulia with 13.11 (0.0) in the 100m hurdles, however Japan’s Rachid Muratake 13.33 (0.4) and Yumi Tanaka 12.89 (1.8) were the fastest in respective heats. The women’s 10,000m final was interrupted due to the rain, and a re-race will be held tomorrow morning.

Muratake 13.22, Woo 229, Jepkemei 30:48.44GUMI (KOR, May 29): Third day of the Asian Championships saw Woo Sanghyeok to win the high jump with 229 ahead of Tomohiro Shinno of Japan (226) and Thailand’s Tawan Kaeodam (223), and Feng Bin to win the women’s discus with 61.90 from Subenrat Insaeng of Thailand (57.68). Fast short hurdles by Japan’s Rachid Muratake in 13.22 (0.7) ahead of Chinese Liu Junxi (13.31) and Qin Weibo (13.45) in the 110m hurdles, and Jyothi Yarraji of India in 12.96 (-0.1) over Japan’s Yumi Tanaka (13.061) and Wu Yanni of China (13.068). High quality women’s 10,000m delivered a victory for Kazakhstan’s Daisy Jepkemei in 30:48.44 PB ahead of Japanese Ririka Hironaka (30:56.32) and Mikuni Yada (31:12.21 PB), and China’s He Wuga (31:36.18), while seventh W.A.M.Rasara Wijesuriya clocked 33:21.62, NR for Sri Lanka. Avinash Sable of India topped the 3000m steeplechase in 8:20.92 over Japan’s Yutaro Niinae (8:24.41) and Zakaria Al-Alhlami of Qatar (8:27.12 PB), with Nguyen Trung Cuong finishing fifth in a new Vietnam NR (8:38.25). Two titles went to Iran, by Reyhaneh Mobini in the long jump with 640 (0.5) over India’s Ancy Sojan 633 (0.5), and by Mohammad Reza Tayebi in the men’s shot put with 20.32 PB ahead of Xing Jialiang from China (19.97). 4x400m wins for India in 3:34.18 from Vietnam (3:34.77), and for Qatar in 3:03.52 ahead of India (3:03.67) and China (3:03.73).

Fast women steeple by Jeruto, from EME News

GUMI (KOR, May 30): Day four at 26th Asian Championships had former World champion Norah Jeruto winning steeple for Kazakhstan 9:10.46 MR ahead of Parul Chaudhary from India 9:12.46 NR and Daisy Jepkemei for Kazakhstan 9:27.51. Two gold medals for India, U20 Pooja 189 (NR U20) in the high jump over Safina Sadullayeva and Yelizaveta Matveyeva both 186 and Nandini Agasara 5941 points PB in heptathlon. Yue Ma won shot put for China 18.26. On the men side two gold medals for China. In long jump Heng Shu 822 PB (-0.5) and in discus Abuduani Tuergong 63.47. It was more close in long jump as second Yu-Tang Lin of Taipei had 820 (+0.4), third Keito Yamaura from Japan 808 (+0.1) and fourth DL winner Zhang Mingkun 805 (0.0). Gulveer Singh from India won after 10 000 m also the 5000 m in 13:24.77 MR edging Kieran Tuntivate of Thailand 13:24.97 and Japanese duo Nagiya Mori 13:25.06 and Keita Satoh 13:26.77. Olympic winner in javelin Arshad Nadeem in his first competition since Paris Games got 86.34 in javelin qualification. South Korea clocked 38.67 in men 4×100 m heats.
