The reigning world 100m champion will receive equity in a team-based ATHLOS Track & Field League debuting in 2026
Sha’Carri Richardson has joined ATHLOS and, alongside Gabby Thomas and Tara Davis-Woodhall, will be advisor-owners in a brand new women’s-only track and field league.
Taking place after the conclusion of the 2026 World Athletics season, ATHLOS – created by the co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian – will feature multiple meets hosted in major cities, culminating in a final championship event.
That means the league will occur after the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships, which will be held in Budapest from September 11-13, 2026.
With Richardson, who backed up her world 100m title from two years ago with an Olympic silver in the event last summer, having a stake in ATHLOS, she will no doubt be one of the faces of the new league next season.
“I’ve always believed that my journey was preparing me for something bigger than myself,” said Richardson. “With ATHLOS, I get to help shape the future of a sport that’s given me so much. It’s not just about running; it’s about building something that lasts for the next generation.”
ATHLOS is set to return to the Icahn Stadium in New York City on October 10 this year – for the second season running – with 42 athletes competing across six track events and one field event.
A total of 36 athletes – across 100m, 200m, 400m, 100m hurdles, 800m, and 1500m – raced against each other for the first prize of $60,000 at last season’s edition. Brittany Brown took home a staggering $85,000 by finishing first in the 200m and placing second over 100m.
“Gabby, Sha’Carri, and Tara represent a new generation of athletes who have put this sport on their shoulders and deserve to be compensated for being the standard-bearers,” said Ohanian. “We were focused on bringing them into the league as founding owners to ensure we’re building a league that our athletes will love.”
More announcements about the new league will be unveiled by ATHLOS throughout the summer.
