The Miami Dolphins made a couple of moves involving cornerbacks on Monday — just not involving the one cornerback (Jalen Ramsey) Dolphins fans have been expecting to be on the move for the last few weeks.
Miami placed Jason Maitre on the injured reserve list and in a corresponding move, signed 23-year-old defensive back Ryan Cooper Jr. to take his place. Cooper returns to the Dolphins after spending a brief period with the club earlier this year.
Cooper entered the league with the Baltimore Ravens after going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent the entire season on Baltimore’s practice squad, but did appear in one game for the Ravens last season.
Maitre was also an undrafted free agent signing — originally joining the Miami Dolphins in May of 2024. He was released prior to the start of the season, but re-signed with the squad in December and spent the final month of the year on Miami’s practice squad.
The Dolphins have a lot of uncertainty in their defensive backfield at the moment — with a remade safety room as part of the equation in addition to the upcoming Jalen Ramsey trade that will most likely take place after June 1st due to cap considerations.
