The Carolina Hurricanes’ stunning losing streak in the Eastern Conference Final continued on Saturday night. They were defeated 6-2 by the Florida Panthers.
The Panthers dealt the Hurricanes their 15th consecutive loss in the Eastern Conference Final, a streak dating back to 2009. In doing so, they’re now a single win away from a third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Final. Florida, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, scored five goals in the third period after entering the final frame tied at 1-1.

One fan expressed his wish to see the team fire coach Rod Brind’Amour, saying, “Rod gotta go. We need a new coach that’ll actually lead us to the Cup and win AN ECF game. Thanks for putting us back on the map, but dude, Rod, you’re done.”
Another fan agreed that the head coach needed to be fired and wrote, “Absolutely embarrassing!! This team should be ashamed… y’all are getting swept, and there are no excuses to make. Brind’Amour is gone after this season, and changes need to be made.”
One fan spoke about Carolina’s carelessness with the puck and said, “I would bet 100 bucks that the Canes have assisted on about 95% of the Panthers’ goals this series. STOP TURNING THE PUCK OVER!!!”
One X user senses that a sweep is inevitable and commented, “This team just doesn’t want to end the streak and won’t do it on Monday either, another sweep on deck. Bookmark it.”
Another fan spoke about roster turnover and wrote, “Just blow it up and rebuild. The core of this team is rotten. Zero heart and zero grit.”
A Hurricanes fan expressed frustration with the team’s overall makeup and commented, “This is what happens when you build a team full of 5’11 170 FWDS and tiny D and run a system that is so easy to manipulate over the course of a series. What happens when you have a nerd running the team and constructing a roster built for just making playoffs, not winning anything.”
The Hurricanes Have Not Won an Eastern Conference Final Game Since 2006
The Hurricanes are experiencing a stunning losing streak in the Eastern Conference Final that dates all the way back to 2009. Their most recent victory in the third round of the postseason came against the Buffalo Sabres in 2006 en route to the franchise’s first and only Stanley Cup win to date.
They spent two seasons outside of the playoffs after their cup win, and then, the Canes advanced back to the Conference Final in 2009, only to be swept by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Carolina has since been swept by the Boston Bruins and then in 2023 by the Panthers. If they lose to the Panthers in Game 4, it will mark their 16th consecutive Eastern Conference Final loss.
