Andrew Whitworth was able to end his career on a high note with the Los Angeles Rams as he helped lead the team to a thrilling win in Super Bowl LVI.

Whitworth and the offensive line did a great job protecting Matthew Stafford who had to work with a limited pass-catching corps. The Rams wound up beating the Cincinnati Bengals to win the Lombardi Trophy and Whitworth subsequently retired. It was a poetic finish for Whitworth to end his career with a Super Bowl ring against his former team.

Since then, Whitworth has remained involved in the game of football as an analyst for Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football” broadcasts as well as hosting his own podcast with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Whitworth has proven he’s just good on the microphone as he was on the field as he often provides great insight and perspective on the game has an excellent personality to boot.

Whitworth is an expert on offensive linemen play and Rams president Kevin Demoff credited him for pushing the NFL to award offensive linemen with their own award, via his personal X account:

Credit to @AndrewWhitworth and others for “pushing” for offensive linemen to be recognized. Long overdue and deserving

— Kevin Demoff (@kdemoff) May 21, 2025

Offensive linemen aren’t recognized the same way most position groups are, so it’s good to see the league is rewarding them with their own honor. Whitworth has been open about his desire to push the game forward and working to honor offensive linemen is a step toward that endeavor.

Protector of the Year sounds like it’ll go to the offensive lineman that gives up the least amount of pressures and sacks, so that’ll be an interesting race to monitor throughout the 2025 season. Los Angeles shored up its offensive line by re-signing Alaric Jackson and bringing back Coleman Shelton in free agency, ensuring the continuity and chemistry in the trenches.

Protecting the quarterback is of the utmost importance in today’s NFL as drop-back passing is as popular as ever. Offensive linemen who can keep their quarterbacks clean get paid handsomely but now there’s an official award at stake for the individual who does his job the best.

Andrew Whitworth feels really good about Rams’ future

The Rams are one of the few teams who can compete for a Super Bowl title next season and beyond due to the youth and talent of their core. Andrew Whitworth was skeptical of the Rams after their slow start to the 2024 season but now feels really good about their future.
