15-28 Proves Costly as Orioles Fire Brandon Hyde, Baltimore Fans Back Decision

The Baltimore Orioles’ 15-28 start has not been what the O’s expected, and Brandon Hyde has been relieved of his duties. A fifth-place position in the AL East standings has left a lot to be desired as the Orioles have the fourth-lowest win total in all of baseball. With only the Pittsburgh Pirates (15-30), Chicago White Sox (14-31), and Colorado Rockies (7-37) having as many or fewer wins, it’s not good company for Baltimore to be with.

Baltimore Orioles Fire Manager Brandon Hyde

A decision was made, and Brandon Hyde is out of Baltimore. Hyde led the Orioles to the postseason in both 2023 and 2024, but this abysmal start to 2025 has resulted in more questions than answers, no matter their record over the past two seasons. Ultimately, Hyde was let go.

“As the head of baseball operations, the poor start to our season is ultimately my responsibility,” Mike Elias, the Orioles’ executive vice president and general manager, said in a formal statement on the move. “I want to thank Brandon for his hard work, dedication, and passion all these years, and for returning the team to the playoffs and winning an AL East Championship.”

Orioles fans were quick to jump on the team’s statement, filling the comments with support for the team’s decision. One fan commented, “Necessary evil. Had to happen.” Meanwhile, another called out Elias, “Thank god!!!!! Elias, fix this mess or you’re next!!!!!”

Another paid his respect to Hyde for his previous successes: “Thank you Brandon for all that you have done. But we won’t just shut up and say thank god the orioles did something. Because this does not fall on the manager alone. Not even close.”

One more Orioles fan paid his respect, saying, “My grandfather used to say, ‘A day late and a dollar short!’ Kinda how I feel right now. I don’t hate Brandon Hyde. Good guy Im sure. I appreciate his efforts. Just time to move on for many reasons.”

Before the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the Orioles had not made the postseason since 2016. Hyde was the American League Manager of the Year in 2023 and had been signed under contract until 2030. Neither their 101-61 record in 2023 nor their 91-71 record in 2024 led to a playoff series win, though.

The firing comes with the Orioles having dropped four straight games, and 10 of their last 12. This team has not been over .500 since the third game of the season when they were 2-1.

His firing leaves the manager spot open, and the Orioles plan to promote Tony Mansolino to interim manager. Mansolino is the current third base coach, having been with the team since 2021. The California native had a brief stint with the Cleveland Guardians in 2020 as well. Mansolino’s father, Doug Mansolino, is a former baseball coach as well.
