Doha DL News: Katie Moon, Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce back, Mutaz Essa Barshim juggling injury early in season

DOHA DL NEWSDOHA (QAT): Speaking at the pre-event press conference, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said she is looking forward to competing at the Doha Diamond League. “I think tomorrow is going to be special. … This is the best year I’ve had in training for the last three years, so I’m looking forward to seeing the execution and putting the race together”. She last competed in Doha at the 2019 World Championships, where her son joined her on the track after winning the 100m.

DOHA (QAT): Neeraj Chopra is excited to compete again at the Doha Diamond League, largely due to the strong support he receives. “I like to compete in Doha, so many javelin throwers throw their PBs in Doha, and because of the Indian community here, so many people come to the stadium and support me,” he said at the pre-event press conference. The 2021 Olympic Champion is now coached by World Record holder Jan Železný. The meet will be a sold out event.

DOHA (QAT): Katie Moon returns to the Doha Diamond League after victory in 2023 (4.81m) and 2021 (4.84m), as well as appearances in 2016, 2017 and 2018. “Having jumped here in the past it’s a great runway and perfect conditions and I’m very excited. I really love jumping here” she said at the pre-event press conference. She co-holds the Meeting Record with Sandi Morris at 4.84m. There is a 5000 USD bonus for new MR and also women pole vault is DL+ event with more prize money starting with 20 000 USD for the winner.

DOHA (QAT): Speaking at the pre-event press conference, Mutaz Barshim confirmed that the injury that prevented him competing at his What Gravity Challenge meeting last week will potentially require him to withdraw from tomorrow’s competition. But he confirmed he wants to be ready for Tokyo World Championships and next year for Asian Games.

DOHA (QAT): ): Lukas Weißhaidinger has withdrawn from the Doha Diamond League and will now start his season in June, informs the Austrian Athletics Federation. He will now open his season at the Stockholm Diamond League on Sunday 15 June.
