Manchester United have added Bruno Guimaraes and Youri Tielemans to their shortlist of midfield targets, with the club preparing for the possible departure of Bruno Fernandes this summer.

Fernandes has emerged as a potential target for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, following reported talks between the club and the player’s agent.

Until recently, Fernandes was expected to stay in Manchester, despite persistent interest from the Middle East.

However, the recent meeting with Al-Hilal has fuelled speculation that a move could be on the cards. The 29 year old is believed to be seeking a contract worth €30–35 million per year—figures that are well beyond United’s current wage structure.

As the club weighs up how to respond, Tielemans and Guimaraes have reportedly emerged as serious candidates to fill the creative void.

Tielemans joined Aston Villa last summer on a free transfer after Leicester City’s relegation, and has since seen his market value rise back to around €50 million thanks to a strong campaign under Unai Emery.

Guimaraes, meanwhile, has been a key figure at Newcastle United since arriving from Lyon. The Brazilian has repeatedly expressed his happiness on Tyneside but may be open to a switch if a more ambitious or high-profile project comes along.

Fernandes has remained a model professional throughout the speculation, leading from the front as one of the team’s most consistent performers. Despite United’s turbulent season, the midfielder has often been the difference-maker, driving the team forward in big matches and setting an example with his attitude and work rate.

However, at nearly 30, the Portuguese star is aware this could be his last opportunity to secure a lucrative contract at the top level.

With United unable to meet the financial power of Saudi clubs, an exit now appears more plausible than it did even a few weeks ago.

The potential loss of Fernandes would mark a major turning point for United’s squad planning. But identifying elite-level replacements from within the Premier League could allow for a quicker transition.

Both Tielemans and Guimaraes are already well-adapted to the demands of English football, removing the uncertainty that can come with overseas signings.

While Fernandes has given no public indication of his intentions, the club’s quiet activity behind the scenes suggests that United are not prepared to be caught off guard. The next few weeks will be telling as the summer transfer window approaches.
