Before he came to the NBA in 2023, Vasilije Micic spent five consecutive seasons with Anadolu Efes in Turkey. Now, the EuroLeague mainstay has interest in reuniting with Micic this offseason.
“We’re in contact with Vasilije Micic, but it won’t be easy to make him an offer that fits our budget. We like Vasa, he’ll come to Istanbul at the end of May,” Efes sporting director Ismail Senol said. “He’s turning 32 next year, so it’s only natural that he’s thinking about the most important contract of his career. Due to the new financial fair play rules, it won’t be easy for us to make him an offer, and we won’t be able to enter a bidding war.”
It’s unclear at this point if Micic will be a free agent or not. The Phoenix Suns hold an $8.1 million team option for the veteran point guard. Declining that option could save the Suns considerable money in tax penalties, considering Micic isn’t likely to be a rotation player next season. However, Micic’s salary could be a nice piece of a salary-matching in a trade for Phoenix. That could lead the team toward picking up the option.
