Bianca Andreescu recently made an emotional admission about finally “taking control” of her life. She made these comments during the ongoing 2025 Italian Open.

After a six-month hiatus due to injuries, Andreescu made a comeback to the court at the 2025 Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole. The Canadian received a wild card entry into the main draw and lost 1-6, 6-4, 6-7(2) in the first round to Suzan Lamens.

Andreescu Opens Up About Having “Control” of Her Life Amid Italian Open 2025

At the Italian Open, Bianca Andreescu kicked off her campaign by defeating wild card Federica Urgesi 6-0, 6-3 in the first round. She then went on to beat 20th seed Donna Vekić 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in the second round.

While speaking to Tennis.com after her win over Vekić, Andreescu stated that she is motivated and is feeling good in her career, something she hasn’t felt even when she won her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2019 US Open.

“The last time I felt like this was when I was 14, believe it or not, when I won Les Petit As. I have those similar feelings, because even in 2019, I never felt this type of motivation,” Bianca Andreescu said.

Andreescu stated that all the drawbacks, the injuries, and the “challenging moments” in her career helped her feel motivated and “take control” of her life.

“Without going through these challenging moments, I don’t think I would be here. It’s such a good feeling to really take control of your life. I love it,” she added.

Before beginning her campaign at the 2025 Italian Open, Andreescu competed at the Catalonia Open. In the singles event, she faced Kimberly Birrell in the first round and lost 2-6, 2-6.

In the doubles event, the former World No. 4 teamed up with Aldila Sutjiadi and defeated Leylah Fernandez and Lulu Sun 6–2, 6–4 in the final to clinch the title.

Andreescu Will Face Elena Rybakina at the 2025 Italian Open 3R

Bianca Andreescu is set to compete against the 11th seed Elena Rybakina in the third round of the 2025 Italian Open.

Rybakina entered the WTA 1000 clay court tournament in Rome after competing at the 2025 Madrid Open, where she was defeated by Elina Svitolina in the third round 3-6, 4-6.

In Rome, the Kazakh began her run in the second round after receiving a first-round bye. She faced Eva Lys in her opening match and emerged victorious with a score of 7-6(3), 6-2, securing her spot in the third round.

Andreescu and Rybakina have faced each other thrice on the WTA Tour, with the former World No. 3 emerging victorious in all three encounters. Their most recent meeting took place in the second round of the 2025 Madrid Open, where Rybakina came out on top with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The winner of the third-round match between Andreescu and Rybakina at the Italian Open will advance to face either the eighth seed Zheng Qinwen or the 26th seed Magdalena Fręch in the fourth round.
