The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly looking at the possibility of restarting the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 immediately. They asked all IPL franchises and their players to be ready with the IPL resume sooner as India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday.

The IPL chairman Arun Dhumal admitted that the BCCI is now scheduling and discussing with all stakeholders about resuming the tournament. But, the ball is not entirely in their court, as the tournament’s resumption is subject to approval from the Indian government.

“Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government,” Dhumal was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

The BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also confirmed that the board officials will have a discussion on the schedule with the IPL governing council on Sunday, May 11.

“With the new development of a ceasefire, the BCCI, IPL Governing Council, office bearers, and officials will meet tomorrow to discuss the situation. We will review the tournament schedule and determine the best possible way to complete it. All aspects, including venues, which were originally decided during the time of conflict will be reconsidered. A final decision will be taken shortly”, said BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by moneycontrol.com.

Another BCCI source said: “Yes the overseas players were panicking but it was more because of the airport shutdown and all. They patiently listened to the franchises and had full confidence but it was the fear of international airports getting shut which triggered a lot of panic.

The BCCI will aim to resume the league as soon as possible, especially with the World Test Championship (WTC) final scheduled for June 11 at Lord’s between Australia and South Africa. The respective team players might struggle to commit if the playoffs are delayed due to a change in schedule.

“We may have to add a few more double headers. But following discussions, we could try and allow teams the home advantage as much as possible,” an IPL official said.
