Benoit Saint Denis’ UFC 315 fight week is not going as planned.
A few days ago, the No. 13-ranked Lightweight contender’s original opponent, Joel Alvarez, was forced to withdraw due to injury. The Lightweight clash was hotly anticipated, but Saint Denis opted not to fight the highly ranked Mateusz Gamrot, who wanted the short-notice booking. Instead, “BSD” will face Kyle Prepolec, a local Canadian fighter who competed for the UFC back in 2019 … but lost both of his fights before being released.
Safe to say, hype for Saint Denis vs. Prepolec isn’t exactly through the roof.
Now, there’s another possible speed bump for the French standout. After photos of his weigh-in spread online, eagle-eyed fight fans noticed a small wound on Saint Denis’ forehead. Immediately, the alarm was raised for a possible staph infection, and multiple fans were decrying Saint Denis’ hygiene in the replies.
The reason for the lack of sympathy in the replies? Back at UFC 299 when he faced Dustin Poirier, Saint Denis’s forehead wound did indeed turn out to be a staph infection. In the aftermath of that brutal knockout loss (watch it), Saint Denis blamed his fatigue and loss on the antibiotics from the infection.
“The Diamond” wasn’t impressed.
Safe to say, if there are any similar issues at UFC 315, fans won’t be impressed either.
