Manchester United progressed to the Europa League final on Thursday after dismantling Athletic Club 7-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

The Basque side have the meanest defence in La Liga this season, and the resounding win was a message to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the finals.

One player who played a massive part in the win was Casemiro, who scored in both legs. His European form has been scintillating, with the Brazilian rolling back the years.

Ruben Amorim is a huge fan and there have been reports that he wants the Brazil international to stay while INEOS are eager to allow him to leave given his humongous wages.

Casemiro’s future

The 33-year-old has expressed his desire to see out his contract here at United in the past but as per Trivela, the player’s camp is waiting for concrete information on his future.

The defensive midfielder is yet to hear anything from the club and should the Red Devils push him out, there is interest from the Saudi Pro League while even European teams could come in for him like AS Roma did in January.

“As reported by Trivela, Manchester United have not yet decided whether they intend to keep the midfielder for 2025/26.

“The Brazilian’s recent prominence certainly made the club’s owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe , bite his tongue after saying that he “could yield more”.

No word from the club yet

“So far, however, the Red Devils have not made contact with the Brazilian to express interest in his staying for next season. At the same time, Casemiro is waiting for a signal from the club to define his future. The midfielder remains alert and open to market possibilities in the European summer.

“In the middle of the European season, Roma approached the Brazilian. Saudi Arabian football also maintains a recurring interest in the player.”

The 20-time English league champions are unlikely to recoup a major fee for a player they overpaid for. So it will be interesting to see what the club ultimately decides.

There is a greater likelihood of Casemiro staying on should Amorim’s side qualify for the Champions League given his European pedigree and the need for a larger squad owing to the number of games.
