Manchester United have reportedly enquired about Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo as the summer transfer window approaches.

United are likely to bring in new attacking players after a season where scoring goals has been a big problem. The team’s main forwards have had a tough time, and it’s clear that Ruben Amorim needs better options up front to make the team a more competitive outfit once again.

The Red Devils continue to be linked to a number of players, including Mbeumo. The Cameroonian is enjoying a fantastic season with Brentford and he is currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in the Premier League – behind only Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Chris Wood – with 18 strikes.

As United fell to a 4-3 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last Sunday, Mbeumo was crucial, playing a hand in two of the goals the visitors conceded.

He was a nuisance all game and the United defenders didn’t have an answer for him.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are hoping to strike an agreement for Mbeumo in addition to signing Wolverhampton Wanderers man Matheus Cunha. Brentford are believed to want £60 million to sanction the 25-year-old’s exit.

More recently, it was claimed that United are preparing to table an opening bid for Mbeumo, who is “intrigued” by the prospect of sealing a switch to Old Trafford.

Now, the Daily Mail reveal that United have established initial contact to explore the possibility of getting a deal for Mbeumo over the line.

According to the newspaper, “United have inquired about Mbeumo and won’t have been put off after coming up against the Cameroon international in a 4-3 defeat at Brentford on Sunday.”

“While it’s fair to say Liam Delap is the top striker target, United see Mbeumo as an option in one of the two No.10 roles in Ruben Amorim’s 4-3-3 system. They have also looked at Eberechi Eze, of Crystal Palace, and RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons.”

“Whether one of them would be in addition to Matheus Cunha or as a back-up if the Cunha deal falls through, remains to be seen. Presumably it would also be dependent on the extra transfer funds from Champions League qualification.”

Last week, United were given the go-ahead to move forward with their interest in Mbeumo after Brentford manager Thomas Frank admitted he could leave if the right offer comes in.
