Manchester United Women captain Maya Le Tissier has been nominated for the Barclays’ Women’s Super League Player of the Year award.

The 23 year old joined the Red Devils in 2022 from Brighton and Hove Albion.

She had an impressive opening campaign at the Leigh Sports Village, being named in the 2023 PFA WSL Team of the Year.

The Guernsey-born defender was also given Young Player of the Year honours at the 2024 Women’s Football Awards.

Le Tissier quickly evolved into one of the club’s most regular performers and manager Marc Skinner challenged her to become “one of the world’s best” in her position at the start of this season.

The centre back was given the honour of captaining the side at the start of the season after the departure of Katie Zelem and she has not looked back.

Consequently, the club’s official website reports that Le Tissier has been nominated for the prestigious Player of the Year award.

The site reports, “the recognition of Maya is well deserved, at the end of her first season as captain of Manchester United Women.”

Le Tissier has been a big reason behind United’s mean defence that has kept an outstanding 13 league clean sheets.

The United star is up against Chelsea’s Sandy Baltimore and Aggie Beever-Jones. She also faces competition from Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey and Alessia Russo.

Shekiera Martinez (West Ham United), Mary Fowler (Manchester City), Kiko Seike (Brighton) and Olivia Smith (Liverpool) are also in the mix for the award.

Le Tissier spoke of her delight at United qualifying for the Champions League with a 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the weekend.

After the match she claimed, “we’re so together, honestly – I feel like we’re unbreakable at times”.

The 23 year old will be looking to lift her first trophy as captain when the Red Devils travel to Wembley on Sunday 18th May to face Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup.
