Milan: Serie A comeback king—Christian Pulisic’s side outperforms Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid and Inter’s shock vs. Barcelona in UEFA Champions League

Above Real Madrid’s usual late drama and Inter’s defiance against Barcelona, Milan stands as Italy’s unrivaled comeback kings this season. And their position in Europe? Equally impressive. In a campaign full of inconsistencies and challenges, Milan’s ability to respond under pressure has quietly become a defining characteristic.

While fans may yearn for cleaner, more dominant performances, the Rossoneri’s resilience in adversity has yielded real rewards—sometimes spectacularly so. With comeback wins stacking up, the giant’s grit might just be what carries them through the finish line this season.

Sergio Conceicao’s Milan hasn’t had the most straightforward path in 2024–25. But what they lack in fluidity, they’ve made up for in fight. No team in Serie A has won more points from losing positions than Milan: 19 in total, according to Opta Paolo.

“Milan have won 19 points from losing positions in Serie A this term, more than any other team,” the stats service revealed, highlighting a stat that has come to define the club’s campaign.

The most recent comeback came just days ago, when Conceicao’s players found themselves trailing once again—only to respond with two goals in 90 seconds and turn defeat into another morale-boosting victory. It’s become something of a pattern this season: the slow start, the scare, and then the storming finish.

Milan’s top domestic turnarounds

Milan News report broke down the specific matches where Milan’s comeback spirit made the difference. In clashes with Torino, Cagliari, Lazio, and Fiorentina, the Rossoneri managed to recover and salvage a point. But it’s the outright wins that make this stat shine.

The team came from behind to grab full points in matches against Como (twice), Parma, Lecce, and Genoa—games that, at times, looked lost. And yet, each time, the red and black found a way to rescue victory. That total haul of 19 points from losing positions is not only the best in Italy, but it also stands tall when measured across the continent.

Where Milan ranks in Europe

Here’s where it gets even more intriguing: in Europe’s top five leagues, only three clubs have done better than the Red and Blacks when it comes to comebacks.

According to Milan News, the list is led by Atletico Madrid, which has rescued 23 points from losing positions. Not far behind are Liverpool (22 points) and Manchester City (20). That places Milan fourth across all major leagues, ahead of the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and many more.
