Rolando Romero spoke to TMZ Sports now that he’s had a few days to digest his win over Ryan Garcia, and talks a little about the fight and where he wants to go from here now that presumably will have some good options. Here’s some of what he had to say during the segment.
Romero reflecting on his win over Ryan Garcia
“I was too smart for him…exactly how I thought it was going to go.”
On what went through his mind when he dropped Garcia in the second
“At that moment when I landed that shot I knew the fight was over then, regardless of if he got up or not, because he wasn’t going to engage anymore because I already had figured him out.”
On if he thinks Garcia was better or worse than the version who faced Devin Haney
“He was better. He was focused. He wasn’t drinking. He wasn’t clubbing. He wasn’t partying around and stuff. I said this better than everyone else, I know him better than he knows himself. And nobody wanted to believe me, he didn’t want to believe me, and I know like everything he’s thinking.”
On what fight he wants to pursue next
“I haven’t thought that far ahead but definitely another PPV fight. Definitely another big name and we’re going to make a big fight because everything I always do is a big fight. I always find a way to make a big fight.”
On his interest in fighting Devin Haney
“Haney wasn’t a big fight to begin with. He wasn’t a big fight when he fought Ryan. And he’s definitely not a big fight after he just became a track star…Devin Haney had one exciting fight and that’s when he got his ass beat by Ryan Garcia.”
On if he thinks Haney is a broken fighter
“You know as a father, right, as his father I just felt like he needed a hug in that moment. I feel like he’s been shattered and it just takes a while to come back from that. And I feel like he just needs love again.”
