This little-known Bobby Witt Jr. accomplishment is mind-boggling

Kansas City Royals superstar shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is on a 22-game hitting streak. In 32 games this season, Witt has gone hitless just once.

The 2024 American League MVP runner-up has already achieved several accolades in his young career. These include an All-Star appearance, a Gold Glove Award, a Silver Slugger and a batting title in 2024. Witt led the majors in triples (11) in 2023 and hits (211) in 2024. Moreover, he has put together back-to-back seasons with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases, the first shortstop in MLB history to accomplish this feat.

What’s even more unbelievable is that, during the Royals’ broadcast on Wednesday, they mentioned that in Witt’s three-plus seasons as a major leaguer, he has not gone more than four games without a hit, and he’s only done it twice.

A quick look at his game logs on Baseball Reference confirmed this shocking anecdote. He went four games during his 2022 rookie season, from May 29 through June 1, without a hit. He did it again in 2023 from July 17 through 21st. That’s it.

Since then, the 24-year-old has had one three-game hitless streak in June 2024, and he’s not gone more than one game in a row without a hit this year.

This stat displays Witt’s consistency as a hitter and his ability to avoid extended slumps.

Witt has played 501 games and has produced 577 hits entering Friday. In addition, on Wednesday, Witt became the fastest player in franchise history to reach 1,000 total bases. He did it in 500 games, 36 games quicker than Carlos Beltran.

Witt continues to put up MVP-worthy numbers, but unfortunately, Aaron Judge is also having another incredible season. Still, Witt looks poised to be an MVP contender for years.

Witt is the face of the Royals franchise. Not only is he enormously talented, but he hustles on every ground ball and plays hard.

Going nearly two years without a four-game hitless streak is genuinely impressive, and it’s part of Witt’s growing list of remarkable accomplishments.
