The Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys (Montjuïc) is set to host a tactical battle between Hansi Flick’s Barcelona and Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan. Both managers must field their strongest possible lineups to gain an advantage in this pivotal Champions League semifinal tie. With the final fast approaching, any mistake from either side could prove fatal to their European aspirations.

Barcelona enters the match fatigued after a grueling 120-minute Copa del Rey victory, though they’ve enjoyed an extra day of rest compared to their Italian counterparts. Currently one of the most in-form teams, the culés will be looking to assert their dominance at home and secure a decisive advantage in the first leg.

Inter Milan, however, find themselves in a difficult patch. Without a win in their last four games, including three consecutive defeats, the neroazurro must overcome their slump if they hope to overcome Barcelona’s formidable attack.

Flick’s energy management challenge

Hansi Flick faces a significant challenge in ensuring his players are at peak energy levels. Given the short turnaround between the Copa del Rey final and this crucial Champions League clash, recovery has been prioritized in training. Despite the fatigue, Flick is expected to field the same starting eleven that triumphed on Saturday, a lineup widely considered to be Barcelona’s strongest possible.

Szczesny will start in goal, protected by a back four. Koundé and Gerard Martín will occupy the full-back positions, with Balde still sidelined due to injury. Íñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsí will marshal the central defense.

Dani Olmo’s recent performances could earn him another start, partnering Pedri and Frenkie de Jong in midfield. With Lewandowski still unavailable due to injury, Ferran Torres will lead the attack, flanked by the dynamic wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Inzaghi’s Inter: A defensive fortress seeking an offensive spark

Despite their recent struggles, Inter Milan’s tactical approach makes them a formidable opponent. Their solid defense and potent offense have made them one of the competition’s toughest teams. Sommer has been a reliable presence in goal, shielded by a five-man defense. With Pavard injured, Darmian, Acerbi, and Bastoni will form the central defensive trio. Dumfries and Dimarco will operate as wing-backs, providing pace and width to trouble Barcelona’s defense.

The Inter midfield boasts an abundance of talent. Çalhanoglu will sit deep, orchestrating play from a more withdrawn position. Barella and Mkhitaryan will provide energy and creativity in the midfield. Upfront, Thuram, despite some minor fitness concerns, is expected to partner Lautaro Martínez in attack, hoping to secure a vital away goal for Inter.

Predicted Lineups

Barcelona: Szczesny; Koundé, Cubarsí, Martínez, Martín; Pedri, De Jong, Dani Olmo; Lamine Yamal, Torres, Raphinha.

Inter Milan: Sommer; Dimarco, Bastoni, Acerbi, Darmian, Dumfries; Çalhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Barella; Thuram, Lautaro Martínez.
