Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers in the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a superb first full season in the Premier League, netting eight goals and providing eight assists. He’s also scored four goals in this year’s Uefa Champions League and two more during their run to the FA Cup semi-finals.
Rogers, a Manchester City academy graduate, joined Villa from Middlesbrough for a reported £15 million including add-ons in February 2024.
Chelsea ‘targeting’ summer transfer for Aston Villa’s Rogers
The England international’s impressive performances have attracted the interest of Chelsea, according The Independent’s Miguel Delaney.
The Blues have identified a need to add “more thrust in attack”, which Rogers could provide with his ability to run at defences with the ball and get into scoring positions.
Villa are not looking to sell a player they see as a “a star for the future”, but might be tempted into doing a deal in order to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules. The Midlands outfit’s wage bill currently eats up over 90 percent of their revenue.
Chelsea feel it could present an “opportunity” to do business with Villa, who have sold a number of key players in recent years to bring in much needed revenue.
