Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim Lightweight champion Dustin Poirier made a special appearance at the 2025 NFL Draft, announcing the New Orleans Saints’ 184th pick yesterday (Sat., April 26, 2025).
The Lafayette native, known for his Louisiana roots and deep connection to his home state, joined the NFL Network stage to reveal the selection.
“What’s good, Green Bay?” Poirier said. “Hey, we got some good weather today, yesterday was nasty. With the 184th pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the New Orleans Saints select Devin Neal, running back from Kansas. Welcome to the team, Who Dat nation, baby.”
The timing of this honor couldn’t have come at a better time, as Poirier’s retirement fight was announced just a day prior.
Indeed, “The Diamond” will collide with Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 318 for the ‘BMF’ belt, which is set to take place on Sat., July 19, 2025 inside Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The two UFC legends have fought twice before, with Poirier winning both fights. Even cooler is that Poirier was Holloway’s first fight inside UFC, and now “Blessed” will be Poirier’s final fight.
