Sometimes you only need a few words to say a lot.
For Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, he had a simple message for the 31 other teams who opted not to take him in the 2025 NFL Draft.
“Belt to ass,” he said in his media conference call.
That was the entire answer.
You know which team took Milroe with the No. 92 pick in the third round? The Seattle Seahawks, who selected just their third QB over the past 16 years. Milroe had never been to Seattle prior to his 30 visit, and now he’s soon to make his way from Tuscaloosa to the Pacific Northwest… a total reverse of his former head coach Kaleb DeBoer, who left the University of Washington to coach Milroe at Bama.
There was more to the media session than just “Belt to ass,” believe it or not. Here’s what Milroe had to say about the long wait to get his name called, having accepted the green room invite to Green Bay on Thursday.
“I know going into this process, my ultimate goal was to hear my name called and I was able to hear that today so that’s definitely a dream come true,” Milroe said. “The best thing about it, I was gathered with family throughout this whole process. It’s definitely a unique journey, for sure. I know where you can go, but it’s all about that right spot and I know I’m in the right spot moving forward.”
Milroe returned home to Houston for Friday when he got that call from Seahawks headquarters.
With Sam Darnold poised to be Seattle’s new starting quarterback, there has been talk of Milroe being used in special packages akin to Taysom Hill with the New Orleans Saints or (frankly, a much more apt comparison) Justin Fields with the Chicago Bears. Milroe is ready to compete and he’s eager to develop under Seattle’s new offensive coaching staff.
“I’m coming in to learn,” Milroe said. “Learn, grow and bring nothing but positive vibes to the offense. Fulfilling all that is a necessity with my role on the team. Of course, once I get there, I’ll understand my niche for sure. But ideally, I’m competing. No matter what day it is, no matter how many reps I get, I’m competing for when an opportunity presents itself at the quarterback position.”
