Boxing’s Golden Goose? Eubank Jr. & Benn’s Million-Dollar UK Bankroller

Promoter Eddie Hearn laughed at the idea of Chris Eubank Jr. retiring if he gets “iced” by Conor Benn this Saturday night in their middleweight scrap at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Hearn says Eubank Jr. loves “money” too much for him to hang up his gloves after his fight with Benn (23-0, 14 KOs).

Hearn is right. Eubank Jr. isn’t going to retire, but neither is Conor if he gets blown out of the water. The two of them are going to stick together and continue to bring in loot with their fights on the UK scene. They love this family rivalry, whereas the U.S public views them as spoiled kids of famous British fighters. These two are going to be so filthy rich from these two fights.

Absurd Earnings

The 14-year pro Eubank Jr, 35, and Benn are both expected to make $10 million from their fight on DAZN PPV on Saturday. There will likely be an equal amount for the two non-achieving British fighters to make in their rematch. In no other sport can you have mediocre athletes making the kind of dough that Eubank Jr. and Benn are going to haul in.

“No [Eubank Jr. won’t retire if he loses]. What do you think is the biggest motivator for Chris Jr? That’s all it’s about for him [money],” said promoter Eddie Hearn to iFL TV when asked if Chris Eubank Jr. will retire and not take the rematch if he loses to Conor Benn on Saturday night.

It’s an absurd amount of money for fighters to make that have never won world titles, and are not expected to during their careers.

Eubank Jr. is not going to turn around and win a world title in 2026, and neither is Benn. Putting either of those arguably domestic-level fighters in with fighters like Janibek Alimkhanuly, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, or Canelo Alvarez would be a slaughter.

Driven by Loot

“I’m sure he loves the sport and the challenge, but it’s money. He’s not that bothered about winning world titles. He’s had so many opportunities to fight for world titles, but he’s not taken them. It’s not the right fight for him, so he hasn’t taken it. Money. There’s a lot of money in the first fight [with Conor] and a lot of money in the second fight,” Hearn continued about Eubank Jr.

“So, it doesn’t matter if he wins on Saturday. It doesn’t matter if he [Eubank Jr.] gets iced in a round. He’s going to want to do the rematch,” said Hearn.
