Lauren James will be out “for a period time” with a hamstring injury, Chelsea have confirmed.
The winger sustained the injury on international duty earlier this month, as she was forced off at half-time during England’s 5-0 win over Belgium.
James was subsequently replaced by Jess Naz in the Lionesses’ squad, and returned to Chelsea for further assessment.
The 23-year-old, who has scored four goals for Sonia Bompastor’s side this season, is now set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
While no timeframe was specified, James is expected to miss the remainder of the Women’s Super League campaign, with Chelsea three points clear at the summit with four games remaining.
She is also likely to miss their Women’s Champions League semi-final showdown with Barcelona, as well as the Women’s FA Cup final clash with Manchester United on May 18.
