Manchester City are reportedly setting their sights on SL Benfica’s rising star Alvaro Carreras as they search for a solution to their left-back dilemma this summer, according to Fichajes.

City in the Market for a Left-Back Reinforcement

Pep Guardiola’s side have lacked a natural left-back since Oleksandr Zinchenko’s departure, with makeshift solutions like Josko Gvardiol filling in. However, with Gvardiol better suited as a centre-back, it’s no surprise that the Premier League champions are prioritising a more natural option—enter Carreras.

The 22-year-old Spaniard, who once rose through the ranks at Manchester United, has impressed with his performances at Benfica. His pace, composure, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively make him an ideal candidate for City’s high-tempo, possession-based system.

Pep Guardiola’s Influence Could Be Pivotal

A return to England might appeal to Carreras, especially under the mentorship of Guardiola. Known for nurturing young talents, Pep could provide the perfect environment for Carreras to flourish—and settle some unfinished Premier League business after his brief stint with United.

City’s Transfer Intentions Clear

City are also keeping tabs on other names like Theo Hernandez, but Carreras represents a more cost-effective, high-upside option. With the club’s financial strength, sealing the deal shouldn’t be an issue. The only question now is—will they pull the trigger before other suitors come knocking?
