He has gone with the monster

Kylian Mbappé‘s name is at the center of the Spanish soccer scene. This time it is not due to goals or stellar performances, but to an uncharacteristic attitude in his game: a shocking tackle that resulted in a direct red card during the match between Real Madrid and Alavés.

Despite the “Merengue” (Meringue) victory by 1-0, the great goal that Eduardo Camavinga had converted was completely in second after the hard entrance of the French striker when the clock had just marked 38 minutes of the first half. Mbappé himself realized instantly the aggressiveness of the play and, upon seeing the red card, went to the locker room without saying a word.

However, the point of conflict that unleashed the expulsion is not due to the tackle itself, but to the suspension dates that could fall on Kylian’s back. In Spain it was rumored with a sanction of four matches, which would force him to miss nothing less than the final of the Copa del Rey against Barcelona. Despite this, the debate would increase even more when the official response from LaLiga was known.

After hours of speculation, when at least two suspension matches were expected as it was a reckless action, more than one took a surprise: the analysts of the case determined that Mbappé must serve a suspension of only one day.

Therefore, the French player will only be absent in the match next Sunday against Athletic de Bilbao, after having been previously on the field against Arsenal, for the return of the quarterfinals of the Champions League (Wednesday from 16 Argentina), and will be ready to resume his participation at the domestic level.

Mbappé’s red card history

Throughout his career, the French striker has been expelled a total of four times. The first three occurred with the Paris Saint-Germain jersey, although the last had occurred in 2019. Now, five years later and with Real Madrid, he returned to the showers ahead of time.

The relatively short suspension for Mbappé has sparked controversy in Spain. Many believe that the tackle warranted a longer ban, especially given the potential for serious injury.

The one-match suspension means that Mbappé will be available for the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. This is a major boost for Real Madrid, as Mbappé is one of their most important players.
