Lorenzo Musetti takes solace in the exquisite tennis he played in reaching his first Masters 1000 final this weekend in Monte-Carlo, but even after reaching his first Masters final and recording back-to-back Top 10 wins at the same event for the first time, he says the work is far from over.

Tennis Express

After his body let him down in the final two sets of Sunday’s 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 loss to Carlos Alcaraz, Musetti talked about his biggest goal for the reason: reaching the Top 10.

The Italian will rise to a career-high ranking of No.11 in Monday’s ranking, but he is aiming higher.

“I take a lot of positive stuff,” the 23-year-old told reporters. “I have reached some of my goals. Of course we are already, focusing on other goals and trying to be ambitious and trying to motivate myself of course, because the Top 10 is not there yet.

“That was probably the main goal of the season right now. But we are close enough to keep fighting, keep dreaming.”

No Barcelona

As a result of his injury, Musetti has elected to pull out of Barcelona next week, but he full expects to play in Madrid and Rome before Roland-Garros.

“I will take one week now and will not go to Barcelona, and I will play Madrid. Hopefully there I will be 100 percent,” he said.

Musetti says he still doesn’t know the status of his injury.

“We still don’t know yet exactly, but of course we are gonna do some exams in the next days. The thing is that, as you probably saw, I couldn’t, you know, finish the match properly, but, you know, in a final, I didn’t want to retire.”
