UFC 314 went down last night (Sat., April 12, 2025) inside Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, which saw Alexander Volkanovski once again win the Featherweight title by defeating Diego Lopes via unanimous decision (video replay here). In the co-main event, Paddy Pimblett secured the biggest win of his career by dominating and ultimately stopping Michael Chandler in the third round (see it again here).

Biggest Winner: Alexander Volkanovski

Volkanovski is once again sitting atop the Featherweight division after claiming the vacant title following a back-and-forth battle against rising contender, Diego Lopes. “The Great” battled through adversity and returned fire in the process, looking like the Volkanovski of old. The win was huge for the new 145-pound champion because it snapped his two-fight losing streak, which came at the hands of current Lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, and the former 145-pound title holder, Ilia Topuria. A third straight loss would have been devastating for the Aussie, but now that he has reclaimed the 145-pound throne Volkanovski — who is 36 years of age — has a new lease on his UFC career and is once again the hunted man at 145 pounds.

Runner (s) Up: Jean Silva and Paddy Pimblett

Silva continued his rapid ascension up the Featherweight ladder by turning in yet another impressive performance, dominating and defeating Bryce Mitchell via second-round submission. What was even more impressive than the finish was the fact that “Lord” made it look easy, toying with “Thug Nasty,” all while experimenting with his striking technique. Once Silva zoned in he started to dominate his foe before eventually sinking in a ninja choke to secure his thirteenth straight win, fifth via stoppage (highlights). With the victory, Silva moves closer to a Top 15 ranking after making easy work of the No. 13-ranked fighter in the division. Things are looking up for the entertaining Brazilian, who set himself up for a bigger fight next.

As for Pimblett, he secured the biggest win of his combat career by turning in a flawless performance against former title contender, Michael Chandler. Once “The Baddy” started getting going it was all downhill for Chandler, who ate a ton of punishment, including a crushing knee to the cheek that opened him right up. Smelling blood, Pimblett’s confidence only grew, and so did his intensity. Pimblett eventually found himself in top position and started raining down strikes to force a stoppage in round three. The win gives the British brawler plenty of bragging rights after often getting heat for not facing and defeating top talent. While Chandler may have lost a step or three over the years, this is still a huge win for “The Baddy.”

Biggest Loser: Michael Chandler

Chandler is without a doubt a fan-favorite, but “Iron” hasn’t been doing a lot of winning lately. In fact, he hasn’t been doing much winning since he first stepped foot inside the Octagon in Feb. 2021, going just 2-5 during his time inside the Octagon, including losing his last three fights. His latest defeat was a crushing one to say the least, as not only did Paddy Pimblett finish him, he battered him to a bloody pulp. It’s truly a tough stretch for “Iron,” who is going to have to figure something out, and fast, if he wants to remain with the promotion. He can always drop down to Featherweight to seek a new lease on his combat life.
