Mohamed Salah is one of the three Liverpool stars, along with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts expire at the end of the season. The Egyptian winger has repeatedly hinted at a lack of progress in the talks over a new deal through the season, but it seems things have changed on that front.

According to multiple sources, there has been a breakthrough in the negotiations and an agreement for Salah to continue playing for Liverpool is now close.

Despite closing in on his 33rd birthday, Salah leads the way in the Premier League in terms of both goals and assists, and his contribution to Liverpool being very close to winning their 20th league title has obviously been huge. In all competitions, he’s hit the back of the opposition net 32 times, setting up a teammate to score on further 22 occasions, in a total of 45 appearances.

The news of Salah being close to signing a new contract with Liverpool comes fast after Van Dijk mentioned a breakthrough in his own talks with the club a couple of days ago. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are still confident about signing Alexander-Arnold as a free agent, even though the rumours about the right-back’s move to the Santiago Bernabeu already being agreed have been denied by reliable sources.
