Jalen Brunson, star guard for the New York Knicks is on track to return to action soon, as he has been cleared for basketball activities following a right ankle sprain suffered on March 6. The injury occurred during an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers when Brunson landed on Austin Reaves’ foot while driving to the basket. Initially expected to miss several weeks, Brunson’s recovery has progressed well, and he could make his return as early as this weekend.

Brunson, who has been a key player for the Knicks all season, is averaging 26.3 points, 7.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 61 games. His performance has placed him among the league’s top scorers and playmakers, earning him consideration for All-NBA honors. Despite his absence, the Knicks have held their ground, posting an 8-5 record without him and securing the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Coach Tom Thibodeau expressed confidence in Brunson’s return, noting that the guard would likely resume practicing during the Knicks’ upcoming road trip, which includes a game against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday and a home game versus the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. While the team is in a comfortable playoff position, Brunson has stated his desire to get some game action before the playoffs to be fully prepared.

The Knicks’ depth has been tested during Brunson’s absence, with other players stepping up to fill the void. Thibodeau emphasized that while Brunson is irreplaceable individually, the team has managed to remain competitive through collective effort, particularly in defense and rebounding. As the Knicks look toward the postseason, Brunson’s return will be a crucial addition to an already formidable roster.

The Atlanta Hawks, currently fighting for playoff positioning, will host the Knicks on Saturday, hoping to snap a two-game losing streak. Brunson’s potential return could be a game-changer for New York, who has been dominant with him on the floor, especially in matchups against the Hawks earlier this season.
