Phoenix Has No Interest In Karl-Anthony Towns

The NBA has suspended five players following Sunday night’s skirmish between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves. Pistons center Isaiah Stewart faces the harshest penalty, a two-game suspension, due to his history of unsportsmanlike conduct. Teammates Marcus Sasser and Ron Holland II were each given one-game suspensions. Minnesota’s Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid also received one-game bans.

The altercation occurred with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ 123-104 win over the Pistons. The conflict began when Holland committed a foul on Reid, which led to Reid confronting Holland. DiVincenzo then got involved, pushing Holland, and the situation escalated when the players fell into the stands. Stewart and Sasser joined in, further intensifying the chaos. The fight ultimately saw all five players ejected, and technical fouls were assessed to both teams.

Stewart’s suspension was particularly harsh due to his previous record of unsportsmanlike behavior, according to Joe Dumars, the NBA’s executive vice president of basketball operations. As a result, Stewart will miss the Pistons’ game on Wednesday against Oklahoma City, while Holland and Sasser will also be unavailable for that contest. DiVincenzo and Reid will serve their one-game suspensions on Tuesday when Minnesota faces the Denver Nuggets.

Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant coach Pablo Prigioni were both ejected during the altercation but did not receive suspensions. While both teams are dealing with the fallout of this incident, Minnesota’s short-handed roster will also be missing rookie Terrence Shannon Jr., who is sidelined with a groin injury.

This incident, which involved multiple players, including coaches being ejected, is a reminder of the physical intensity that can sometimes boil over into on-court chaos, resulting in significant suspensions and team disruptions.
