In the Ford Championship presented by Wild Horse Pass, on the Whirlwind Golf Club course (Cattail Course, par 72), in Chandler, Arizona, the Korean Hyo Joo Kim, with a great final comeback highlighted by a 64 (-8), best score of the day, for a total of 266 (69 66 67 64, -22), reached the American Lilia Vu (266 – 66 64 68 68), leader after three rounds with a four-shot margin, and then overtook her with a birdie on the first playoff hole.
LPGA Tour, results
In the LPGA Tour tournament, Allisen Corpuz missed the play-off by one shot, third with 267 (-21) ahead of the Thai Jeeno Thitikul, fourth with 268 (-20), and Lindy Duncan, fifth with 269 (-19). In sixth place with 270 (-18) Yealimi Noh, the New Zealander Lydia Ko, the Japanese Saki Baba, the Mexican Gaby Lopez and the Korean Mi Hyang Lee and only in 22nd place with 274 (-14) Nelly Korda, world number one and defending champion. Benedetta Moresco, the only Italian in the competition, exited at the cut, 103rd with 144 (70 74, par).
Hyo Joo Kim, 29 years old from Wonju, obtained the seventh title on the circuit (with a Major, Evian Championship, 2014) for a palmarés that also includes 14 successes on the LPGA of Korea Tour and one on the LPGA of Japan Tour in 2012 (Suntory Open) when she was still an amateur. For the success she received a check for 337,500 dollars on a prize pool of 2,250,000 dollars.
The Rules of Golf are a set of rules and standard procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, except in the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association. An expert committee, made up of members of the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the Rules every four years. The latest revision was effective January 1, 2016. In Italy, the Federgolf is responsible for supervising competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
