Coming up on April 5th from the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, heavyweight contenders Joe Joyce and Filip Hrgovic will square off in a crossroads showdown.

In his most recent fight last June, Hrgovic lost for the first time in his professional career when he lost against Daniel Dubois after the fight was stopped because of cuts. On the other side, Joyce had his most recent fight last July where he lost a 10 round unanimous decision against Derek Chisora. So both of these heavyweights are coming off of a loss, and both of these guys previously blew a mandatory spot. Hrgovic was the IBF mandatory going into the Dubois fight, but Dubois’ victory marked him as the IBF interim champion. About a month later Dubois was promoted to the real IBF champion after Usyk vacated the belt. Joyce was the undefeated WBO mandatory a few years back, but he lost that status after losing back to back fights against Zhilei Zhang. With the recent loss against Chisora, Joyce has now lost 3 of his last 5.

This is a must win fight for both guys. The winner of this one could find himself right back in the mix, where another high profile opportunity would likely surface in short order. But the loser of this one will find himself in a very difficult situation that would likely require taking a few steps back in order to rebuild. That marks this as a bit of a crossroads fight for both heavyweights.
