The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) will meet on Friday to discuss the future of Brazil coach Dorival Junior, according to reports.
Dorival’s side were thumped 4-1 by World Champions and bitter rivals Argentina in a 2026 World Cup qualifying game on Thursday, prompting the swift scheduling of a meeting by CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, sources have told ESPN Brasil.
Sources said that while review meetings between Dorival and the CBF are routine during international windows, the heavy defeat in Buenos Aires has expedited a face-to-face encounter with the coaching staff.
However, it is understood that Dorival has not yet been informed of any decision regarding his future.

Meanwhile, reports continue to circulate suggesting the CBF are eyeing up Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti as a possible replacement for Dorival. Flamengo boss Filipe Luis and Jorge Jesus, currently in charge of Al Hilal, are also considered to be potential candidates.
The Selecao have endured a turbulent time in qualifying. They currently sit in fourth spot in the table with just four games remaining, having won six, drawn three and lost five.
The top six all reach the World Cup finals, with seventh place going into the intercontinental play-offs for a spot at next year’s tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Dorival, a 62-year-old former defensive midfielder, has been Brazil national team head coach since January 2024.
His managerial career began in 2002 and he has only ever coached in his native country, taking charge of more than 20 clubs, including multiple stints with the likes of Santos and Sao Paulo.
