Americans Land Eight in Roland-Garros Round of 16, Most Since 1985

Grigor Dimitrov booked a spot in the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 6-7(3), 6-4, 7-5 victory over Karen Khachanov on Sunday afternoon. Dimitrov prevailed after two hours and 38 minutes.

The 33-year-old Bulgarian now leads the head-to-head series with Khachanov 5-1.

“We know each other very well,” Dimitrov assured. “We practice with each other a lot, so there weren’t really secrets. At the end of the day, it came down to a few points. Even in the first set, I think I won more points than him and still lost the set–so I had to stay true to my game. I feel like I’m playing [well], but I think I can raise my level a bit and I’m still trying to find that range…. I still believe I can play better tennis.”

Sebastian Korda played his best tennis of 2025 for his biggest win of the year. The 25th-ranked American ousted 10th-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas Sebastian 7-6(4), 6-3 in one hour and 35 minutes. Tsitsipas had not defeated anyone ranked better than No. 55 when he arrived at the Miami Masters.

“[It feels] awesome,” Korda commented. “I was born in Florida. My whole family is here. It’s just a lot of fun to play here and get my first top-10 win of the year. I tried to serve well, tried to come to the net when I could, and I’m just happy with my performance today.”

Korda will next face Gael Monfils, who outlasted Jaume Munar in a third-set tiebreaker. Dimitrov will battle Brandon Nakashima.
