The 2025 IBJJF Pan Jiu-jitsu Championship produced some interesting results. The biggest name on the event for MMA fans was UFC legend Demetrious Johnson, who was eliminated early after losing in the first round of his Master 2 division.

Several Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) world champions and top prospects also made waves at the IBJJF Pans.

Sarah Galvao beats Helena Crevar in battle of next gen BJJ stars

The open weight tournament at brown belt produced an intriguing match up that we could be seeing for years to come.

BJJ prodigies Helena Crevar and Sarah Galvao each won gold in their respective divisions, with the daughter of jiu-jitsu legend Andre Galvao also taking bronze in the open weight division. While the taking those two medals is already an impressive feat for the lightweight (141.6 lbs), Galvao’s run at absolute also included a win over Crevar.

Both pegged as next generation BJJ stars, Galvao recently joined the professional BJJ scene, where Crevar, a teenage phenom and John Danaher product, has been dominating as of late. When they met at the Absolute division though, Galvao showcased her skills and athleticism to pass Crevar’s vaunted guard. Despite Crevar coming from a division 20 lbs heavier, Galvao was able to win the match 6-0.

Pato, Dalpra and Wardzinski win second major, Jimenez takes double silver at 2025 IBJJF Pans

In the adult black belt divisions, several world champions shined. In the stacked featherweight division, Diego Pato beat Cole Abate in the finals to take IBJJF Pans gold, while Tainan Dalpra beat his usual Atos rivals in Andy Murasaki and Rolando Samson to win at middleweight again.

No gi star Roberto Jimenez had really impressive runs in the gi at both heavyweight and the Absolute divisions, as he took home two silver medals. As good as Jimenez looked in this event though, he did run into another surging world champion in Adam Wardzinski, who beat him in the heavyweight finals.

Also in the event, two-time ADCC world champion Diogo Reis looked good in the gi for the most part, but lost in the light featherweight finals to Rerisson Gabriel.

In the black belt women’s divisions, Thaynara Victoria won a pretty stacked light featherweight division that had champions like Mayssa Bastos and Shelby Murphey, while Gabi Pessanha continued her dominance to take double gold once again.

With Wardzinski, Pato, Dalpra and Pessanha among the few to have won both the IBJJF Pans and IBJJF Euros, their path to a potential 2025 IBJJF Grand Slam is still alive, with two more major tournaments coming later in the year.
