New chapter in the rivalry amid possible UEFA Champions League clash: PSG’s bold strategy to get back at Real Madrid after losing Kylian Mbappe for free

The rivalry between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain has become one of the most intense in European soccer, but recent events have taken it to a whole new level. As both clubs navigate a potential UEFA Champions League semi-final clash, their battle has extended far beyond the pitch.

A bitter transfer saga, a legal dispute, and now a recruitment war—the tension between the two European giants is reaching a breaking point. But while all eyes are on a possible continental showdown, PSG has quietly been setting its sights on something else—a move that could strike Real Madrid at its very core.

The bad blood between the two teams stems from one name: Kylian Mbappe. After years of speculation, the French superstar left Paris last summer as a free agent, finally securing his long-awaited move to Madrid. Despite PSG’s repeated attempts to convince him to stay—and rejecting offers exceeding $108 million in the process—Mbappe walked away for free, fulfilling Florentino Perez’s master plan.

“The best way to put what happened behind them is to strike back at Real Madrid,” Spanish outlet Marca reported. From Madrid’s perspective, this was a perfectly executed transfer. The France international had delayed contract renewal talks, only to leave for Spain without costing a cent in transfer fees. For the Parisians, however, it was a humiliating defeat—losing one of the world’s most valuable players for nothing in return.

To make matters worse, Mbappe and PSG are still locked in a legal battle over $60 million in unpaid wages and loyalty bonuses, further deepening the animosity. Now, with tensions still running high, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reportedly plotting revenge in a way that could have lasting consequences for his rival’s future.

PSG’s inevitable revenge: Raiding Madrid’s academy

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, PSG’s top executives, including Al-Khelaifi himself, have devised a plan to hit Real Madrid where it hurts most—by targeting their youth academy, La Fabrica.

Madrid’s youth system has long been one of the most productive in world soccer, developing stars like Raul, Iker Casillas, Dani Carvajal, and more recently, Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo. The French giant sees an opportunity to poach some of Los Blancos’ most promising young players, not just to strengthen their own squad but to send a clear message to the Spaniards.

The prime target in this operation? The 16-year-old Bryan Bugarin, who has already made waves at the Al-Kass International Cup in Doha, where Real Madrid’s U16 team faced PSG in the final. Marca suggests that PSG scouts have been monitoring Bugarin closely, hoping to lure him to France before Madrid can secure his long-term future.

Beyond Bugarin, PSG’s scouting network has expanded its reach into Madrid’s youth ranks. It’s said that the French side is keeping tabs on several academy prospects who could be tempted by the club’s project.

Real Madrid on high alert: Countermeasures underway

Real Madrid is supposedly well aware of PSG’s aggressive recruitment strategy, and they are not taking it lightly. The Spanish giants have already moved swiftly to lock down key prospects, with Bryan Bugarin signing his first official contract with Madrid this week—a direct response to PSG’s interest.

Beyond individual signings, the Whites are also implementing a long-term strategy to ensure their best young talents stay committed to the club. This includes fast-tracking the development of academy players into the first-team setup and offering competitive contracts to prevent poaching from rival clubs. The La Liga giants will also look to strengthen the scouting and recruitment network to identify and secure emerging talent before the Red-and-Blues can act, Marca adds.
