Arsenal are closely monitoring SC Freiburg’s rising star, Noah Atubolu, as they search for a new goalkeeper to reinforce their squad ahead of next season.
Arsenal’s Goalkeeping Shake-Up
After a disappointing campaign, the Gunners are gearing up for a major squad overhaul this summer. While a striker and a top-class midfielder remain their main priorities, Mikel Arteta’s side are also in the market for a reliable backup goalkeeper to provide competition for David Raya.
According to Graeme Bailey (TBR Football), Arsenal have identified Noah Atubolu as a strong candidate, with scouts keeping a close eye on the Freiburg shot-stopper ahead of a potential move.
Atubolu’s Rise – A Future Star in the Making?
Atubolu has been a key figure at Freiburg since breaking into the first team in 2021. The 22-year-old has already racked up 72 senior appearances, keeping an impressive 26 clean sheets. This season, he has been in outstanding form, registering 10 shutouts in 23 Bundesliga matches.
The German youth international recently set a club record for consecutive minutes without conceding—going six straight games unbeaten. His incredible penalty-saving ability has also turned heads, with four successful stops from the spot this season alone.
Arsenal’s Next Move
With Aaron Ramsdale’s departure last summer, Arsenal signed Bournemouth’s Neto on loan as cover for Raya. However, Neto is expected to return to his parent club, leaving Arsenal in need of a long-term solution in goal.
While Joan Garcia remains their top target, heavy competition for his signature has prompted Arsenal to explore alternatives—and Atubolu has emerged as a serious contender.
His ability to push Raya for the No.1 spot while being a viable long-term successor makes him an intriguing option for the North London club. With Arsenal already scouting him closely, could a summer move be on the horizon?
