Kyle Larson’s Vegas Sweep Piles Pressure on Martin Truex Jr.’s NASCAR Cup Record

Kyle Larson has been the underdog of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, defying the odds to remain in championship contention despite significant hardships, including some incredibly unlucky wrecks. How, you might ask? Well, Larson has navigated the first five races with a strategic masterclass.

While race wins have been elusive for much of the field—thanks in large part to dominant performances by Christopher Bell and William Byron—Larson has seized the opportunity in unguarded moments by playing to his strengths and maximizing every opportunity. That’s always been Larson’s style. In the last five races, Larson has claimed two crucial stage victories, one in Las Vegas and another in Atlanta.

This performance has propelled Larson to the top of the charts for the highest number of stage victories in 2025. However, his achievements don’t stop there. The Chevrolet driver also holds the record for the second-highest number of stage victories in NASCAR history, trailing only Martin Truex Jr.

This brings us to an exciting question: how close is Larson to surpassing Truex Jr.’s long-held NASCAR record? The answer: not far at all!

Can Kyle Larson Break Martin Truex Jr.’s Insane NASCAR Record?

Mathematically, Larson could still tie the record for the most stage wins in NASCAR as early as this weekend at the 2025 Straight Talk Wireless 400. After his stage victory in Las Vegas, Larson is now just two stage wins shy of equaling Truex Jr.’s record. Truex Jr. currently holds 66 stage victories since 2017, while Larson sits at 64.

Moreover, sweeping the stages isn’t out of reach for a driver like Larson, especially at one of his favorite race weekends. Larson has already swept the stages twice at Homestead-Miami, and a third sweep could happen as soon as this weekend.

Overall, Larson faces a record-chasing weekend in Miami as he aims to break not just one, but two major records. While the first is focused on stage victories, the second is centered around an incredible feat—racing in all of NASCAR’s top series during a single race weekend.

“I think it’s just a really tough feat to do, and I think Kyle Busch is maybe the only one who’s done it, and he’s done it multiple times at Bristol, so to join him in something like that would be pretty special,” Larson said ahead of the Homestead-Miami weekend.

Amidst the growing hype, the question remains: can Larson pull off the impossible by winning the stages and the race itself? Only time will tell.
