Report: Seahawks pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu renegotiates contract, takes pay cut

Interesting days continue for the Seattle Seahawks.

A week removed from the signing of defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, and just days after Cooper Kupp was given jersey number 10, Seattle has restructured the contract of former No. 10 Uchenna Nwosu.

It looks like @Jason_OTC has the Seahawks restructuring Uchenna Nwosu’s contract and freeing up $9M in cap space. Currently shows them with $70M (which does not include the Darnold, Kupp, Lawrence deals) pic.twitter.com/RfAnZG7Oqr

Nwosu has been with the Seahawks for three seasons. He was set to have a $21 million cap hit for 2025, which has now been reduced to $11.8 million.

Additionally, it’s been reported that this is more than a simple restructure – Nwosu actually agreed to a pay cut.

As noticed by @Hawkblogger, I can confirm via source Uchenna Nwosu took a pay cut to drop his cap hit from $21 million in 2025 to $11.8 million. #Seahawks

As we surmised in January, the Seahawks have now dealt with five of their six most expensive players heading into the season, creating an absurd amount of cap space – second in the NFL at the moment. Only Leonard Williams escaped a trade, release or paycut.

Nwosu was injured for much of 2023 and 2024, and the edge rush group now boasts four strong with Boye Mafe, Derick Hall and Demarcus Lawrence. I wouldn’t have predicted that Nwosu would automatically see his play reduced – especially with Dre’Mont Jones leaving. We’ll see what this does for his time on the field next season, but the Seattle brass has created quite a bit of breathing room for themselves for the remainder of the offseason.
