Alcaraz vs Sinner, Wimbledon Final, By the Numbers

The Canadian teen won her first match on the main tour on Wednesday at the Miami Open, defeating Camila Osorio in three sets. It was Mboko’s first-ever match at the WTA 1000 level and just her second in a WTA Tour main draw in her career.

It was hardly an easy debut in Miami for Mboko as the first-round clash was a roller coaster. Leads were difficult to maintain for both women throughout the match but late in the third set, the teen managed to hold her nerve to eek out a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win.

In the end, the 18-year-old from Toronto won just one more point than her Colombian opponent in the two-hour, 34-minute clash. She created an impressive 18 break point chances on Osorio’s serve, converting eight, while saving three of nine on her own serve.

Mboko got off to a nervy start, having to save three break points in her opening service game. But after sneaking out of it with a hold, she settled in and started to dominate. In the very next game, a couple of spectacular winners gave the Canadian a love-40 look on Osorio’s serve and the Colombian eventually hit backhand wide to give Mboko the first break.

The next stretch was dominated by the Canadian as she used her big-hitting to give Osorio fits. Mboko secured a second break in the seventh game to set herself up to serve for the set. She seemed primed to close it out at 5-2, 40-15 but the Colombian managed to save both set points and another at AD-40 to reclaim the first break. Osorio then broke again the second time Mboko served for it, saving a fourth set point in the process, to get back to 5-all.

But it was all for nothing. The Canadian shook off letting her lead slip away and immediately broke to take a 6-5 lead and this time, the third time she served for the set, Mboko was able to close it out on her fifth set point.

A stretch of four breaks in a row early in the second set failed to give either woman an edge. As the pressure mounted late, Mboko began to struggle. She battled through a tough service game to stay in it at 4-5 but then at 5-6, she was broken to love to send the match to a decider.

Mboko quickly put the late breakdown behind her as she immediately went after the Osorio serve in the third set. The Colombian managed to hold from love-40 down in the opening game but could not dig herself out of a 15-40 hole at 1-1. Mboko broke on her way to a 3-1 lead.

Osorio had one more push in her, breaking to get back to 3-3, but from there the teen locked in. The final three games went the way of Mboko as she broke right back to reclaim the initiative and then broke again to seal the win.

Across all levels of the professional game, it was the 18-year-old’s 28th win of 2025, having gone 27-1, including qualifying, to start the year on the ITF Tour with five titles. She will now face the biggest test of her career in the form of world No. 11 Paula Badosa in round two.
