Manchester United have already made some calls to enquire about signing a new central defender according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have struggled in defense this season despite signing Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt in the summer transfer window last year.

In the January transfer window, they signed Ayden Heaven from the Arsenal academy who has been impressive so far at Old Trafford.

Despite these new additions to the side, United could lose Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans after the end of this season.

They still have Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez in that position but the former is 32-years-old and does not have long left in the game at the top level while the latter is currently out with a long term injury.

While a new striker is also on the agenda of the club, Romano has revealed that the Red Devils have already started working towards signing a new defender.

He wrote for GiveMeSport:

“Ruben Amorim has also indicated this position as one more to cover in the upcoming months, and Man United directors have recently started making some calls to enquire about centre-backs available in the summer.”

Amorim has so far been successful at the club with his recruitment, having signed Heaven from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

Both the defenders have been highly impressive recently and that has earned the manager the confidence of the board at the club.

While the Premier League giants are set to look for a new striker in the summer as well, a new defender will also be on their list of priorities.

It remains to be seen who they are going to target but their recent transfer targets include Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio.

The Red Devils have also been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong and Sporting Lisbon attacker Viktor Gyokeres.
