Steph Curry is Unrivaled!

It’s been quite the busy week for Steph Curry, who recently announced his plans to become an assistant manager at his alma mater, Davidson College. An elite sharpshooter on the court, Curry has transformed into a lavish entrepreneur and investor off the hardwood. Along with all of Curry’s ventures, the Warriors star is turning his focus to Unrivaled and Women’s Sports.

A four-time NBA Champion, 11-time NBA All-Star, and Olympic Gold Medalist, Steph Curry joins a lengthy list of investors. Included in the Series A investment group, Unrivaled secured more than $28 million. In addition, the league obtained a surplus of $7 million. In fact, the league pooled in a total of $35 million from various investors. The funding also featured a first ever one-on-one tournament with a $350,000 prize pool.

“I am incredibly proud to be joining the Unrivaled family as the league continues to set a new standard for how women’s professional sports should operate—empowering athletes and ensuring they have a real stake in their own success,” said Stephen Curry in a PR Release.  “Unrivaled is not just innovating the way we play basketball, but also how we value and invest in the athletes who drive the game forward.

How Unrivaled Has Set the Standard

Founded by WNBA and former Connecticut Husky stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, Unrivaled is a professional 3-on-3 league. A first of it’s kind, Unrivaled is owned by players themselves. In return, Unrivaled athletes have equity in the league. Designed to provide athlete’s with an option to stay state side during the off-season, Unrivaled offers the highest salary in Women’s professional sports.

It’s a league that’s set the standard and tone in women’s professional sports. From the pay, to amenities, to state of the art facilities— Unrivaled is unequivocally about the players. For many, overseas has been the sole option to increase one’s income. With Unrivaled, the players are given the choice to stay close to their families. Talk about putting the players first, Unrivaled even features a daycare.

Steph Curry Has Been A Dedicated Supporter of Women’s Basketball

Curry has been supporter of women in sports, which the world needs more of. With women’s hoops on the rise, what better way to invest and diversify your portfolio? After the WNBA delivered record setting viewership numbers, women’s NCAA basketball has done the same. With 2.6 billion total minutes among viewers, NCCA Women’s Basketball delivered the most-watched season in 16 years.

I’ll say this again, investing in women’s sports is everything. These women deserve fair pay. Increased visibility, and proper facilities for strength and recovery.

Having launched his own Curry Brand with Under Armour, Curry is committed to building the women’s game at all levels. Just last season, South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley became the first NCAA athlete to sign with the brand. Furthermore, having the bandwidth and passion to promote women athletes and highlight them is incredibly important.

With this major financial contribution, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Curry establish a relationship with Women professional basketball player. Only a year ago, NBA All-Star weekend featured a Steph Curry vs Sabrina Ionescu three-point challenge. Although conceding to Curry in the tournament, it brought attention to Women’s Basketball on the biggest stage. As a father of two daughters, Curry understands importance of women in sports.

Steph Curry is the latest that headlines a list of iconic names that support and invest in Unrivaled. In fact, there are several current and former NBA athletes that are fully committed to the rise in Women’s sports. The complete list of NBA players investing in Unrivaled includes:

Carmelo Anthony
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Richard ‘Rip’ Hamilton
Joe Ingles
Trey Jones
Tyus Jones

With the recent news, Curry joins Michael Phelps, JuJu Watkins, Dawn Staley, Coco Gauff, and Alex Morgan as just a few of the athletes investing in Unrivaled.

Unrivaled certainly hasn’t disappointed in it’s inaugural season. With all games nationally televised, the Napheesa Coliier and the Lunar Owls headline the league. After an MVP-esque season, Collier, Owls are the first team to reach 1,000 points scored and have the best record.  With the Lunar Owls, Vinyl, Laces and Rose fighting for the first ever championship, who win be crowned the winner?

Four teams will compete over two rounds for the trophy. Set to square off on March 16-17, each player on the Championship team will earn $50,000. With investors like Curry, leagues such as Unrivaled continue to set the standard for the growth and drive of women’s sports.
