Nick Kyrgios read about coach Darren Cahill describing Jannik Sinner as “a very mature young man” and then proceeded to state that the Italian’s case is “getting more cringe daily.”
A week ago, the Australian coach was a guest on Caroline Garcia’s tennis podcast and of course, it didn’t go away without him addressing the doping case that rocked the tennis world. And when asked about it, the 60-year-old said he thought 23-year-old Sinner was handling the case and criticism in the absolute way possible.
“But he said to me the other day: ‘Don’t concern yourself with the criticism of someone you wouldn’t take advice from,'” Cahill said on the Tennis Insider Club.
“I am looking at him thinking: ‘Are you 23 years of age?’ I know that’s a quote that is out there, but to come from him, it’s like: ‘Okay, let’s move on.’
“He is a mature young man, he is a good young man, and I know Italy is very proud of him – and they should be.”

“Like his team that gave him a prohibited substance gets more cringe every day,” the 2022 Wimbledon finalist said in his response to the Cahill comments which were posted by Tennis365’s Instagram account.
After the ITIA revealed that Sinner failed a doping test, it was explained that a banned substance got into his system because of negligence from his physio and that the Italian tennis star wasn’t at fault for what happened.
The WADA contested the ITIA’s ruling not to give the world No. 1 any ban – and while they accepted that the player didn’t knowingly or intentionally take a banned substance – they pushed for a suspension and ultimately settled with the three-time Grand Slam champion on a three-month ban.
Sinner is not competing at the ongoing Indian Wells Masters and he won’t be allowed to return until early May.
