Since the inaugural edition in 2008, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen countless players come and go, but only a select few have managed to maintain their presence in every single season of the tournament.

The ever-present pillars of the IPL

There are only four cricketers who have played atleast one game in every IPL season from 2008 to 2025, marking them as true stalwarts of the league. Their consistency, longevity, and ability to adapt to changing formats and teams have made them icons of the IPL era. The IPL has witnessed numerous superstars, but only a select few have endured the test of time. These four have not only played in every season but have also shaped the tournament’s legacy in their own unique ways. Whether through captaincy, consistency, or adaptability, these four players have ensured that their names will forever be associated with the grandest T20 league in the world. As the IPL continues to evolve, their contributions remain a testament to their skill, dedication, and love for the game.

4 players who have featured in every season

1. MS Dhoni: The timeless leader and finisher

A name synonymous with calmness under pressure and tactical brilliance, MS Dhoni has been the heart and soul of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the inception of the IPL. Leading CSK to five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, 2023), Dhoni has been the backbone of the franchise, setting an example with his captaincy, finishing abilities, and wicketkeeping excellence.

Even as he transitioned from a power-hitter to a calculative finisher, his ability to absorb pressure and deliver in crunch situations remained unparalleled. His match-winning six in the ODI World Cup 2011 final reflected his ability to handle pressure, a skill that has translated seamlessly into his IPL career. His leadership was a key factor in CSK’s consistency, making them one of the most successful IPL franchises. Even at 43, he continues to draw massive crowds, proving that Dhoni is not just a cricketer but an emotion for millions of fans.

2. Virat Kohli: The loyal warrior of RCB

If there is one player who has become synonymous with a single franchise, it is Virat Kohli with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The dynamic batter has been part of RCB since 2008, evolving from a promising young talent into one of the greatest batters in IPL history. Kohli holds the record for the most runs in IPL history, with over 8,000 runs, including his historic 973-run season in 2016, a record that still stands.

Despite RCB’s struggles in securing an IPL title, Kohli’s passion and loyalty towards the franchise have never wavered. He served as captain from 2013 to 2021, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances. Even after stepping down from captaincy, Kohli remains the face of RCB, delivering match-winning knocks and being the driving force behind their batting lineup. His aggression, intensity, and hunger for runs continue to inspire young cricketers and RCB fans worldwide.

3. Rohit Sharma: The most successful IPL captain

While Rohit’s early IPL years saw him represent Deccan Chargers (2008-2010), it was after joining Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2011 that he truly left his mark on IPL history. Appointed as captain midway through the 2013 season, Rohit led MI to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020), making them the most successful franchise in IPL history alongside CSK.

Beyond his leadership, Rohit’s batting has been instrumental in Mumbai’s success. With over 6,000 IPL runs, he has been a consistent performer, anchoring the innings and accelerating when required. His ability to play both the anchor role and aggressive stroke-maker makes him one of the most complete batters in IPL history. Even as MI transitions into a new era, Rohit Sharma’s impact on the franchise remains unmatched, ensuring that his legacy in the IPL will live on.

4. Manish Pandey: The first Indian centurion in IPL history

While Manish Pandey might not enjoy the same level of stardom as the other three, his longevity and adaptability have ensured his place in every IPL season since 2008. Pandey’s biggest claim to fame came in 2009, when he became the first Indian to score an IPL century while playing for RCB.

Over the years, Pandey has represented multiple franchises, including Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC). His ability to play in the middle order, stabilize innings, and finish games has made him a valuable asset to multiple teams. While he hasn’t been as dominant as Kohli or Rohit, Pandey’s consistency and ability to adapt to different team dynamics have kept him relevant in the IPL for over a decade.
